Jesus Galindo was one of the UAFS Lions top cross country runners a year ago as a freshman. He’s seemed to pick up right where he left off.

Galindo finished 25th overall in Saturday’s University of Central Oklahoma Land Run, leading the Lions to an eighth place finish in the 10-team event held at Edmond’s Santa Fe High School.

Oklahoma City won the event, placing four runners in the Top 10. Oklahoma Christian was second, followed by East Central, Dallas Baptist, Oklahoma Baptist, Southern Nazarene, Rogers State, UAFS, St. Gregory and Northwestern.

Galindo, a sophomore from Springdale, covered the 6k course in a time of 21:38.60. Sophomore Mason Rhodes finished 45th overall with a time of 22:2027, senior Hunter Westbrook finished 57th overall with a time of 22:49.17, senior Isai Carranza finished 80th overall with a time of 23:41.40, junior Nico Hall finished 89th overall with a time of 24:15.20, junior Ian Carter finished 93rd overall with a time of 24:26.51 and senior Juan Zermeno finished 96th with a time of 24:4384.

Oklahoma City’s Arya Bahreini won the 102-runner event with a time of 19:30.76.

Lady Lions

Jessica Salas didn’t wait long to make her presence known.

In her debut cross country meet as a UAFS Lady Lion, the freshman from Springdale, Ark., posted a 32nd place finish in Saturday’s University of Central Oklahoma Land Run at Edmond’s Santa Fe High School.

Salas covered the 5k course in a time of 20:15.14, helping lead the Lady Lions to a ninth place finish. Oklahoma Baptist won the 12-team event, placing four runners in the Top 10. Dallas Baptist was second, followed by Oklahoma City, East Central, Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma Christian, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Rogers State, UAFS, Southern Nazarene, St. Gregory and Northwestern.

UAFS senior Katy Carter finished 58th overall with a time of 21:10.68, sophomore Jasmine Jackson finished 62nd with a time of 21:25.80, sophomore Krysten Fagan finished 81st with a time of 22:23.22, junior Natalie Flippo finished 104th with a time of 24:22.58 and freshman Claire Burnsed finished 116th with a time of 27:38.92.

Dallas Baptist’s Kelsey Bruce won the 117-runner event with a time of 17:34.88.
