RUSSELLVILLE – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the opening week of the 2015 women’s soccer season. Ouachita’s Haley Hatcher won the offensive honor; Oklahoma Baptist’s Shelibe Shawn earned the defender award and Southern Nazarene’s Natasha Fuentes received the goalkeeper honor.
In the men’s division, Ouachita’s Tinashe Chigede picked up the offensive award and Ben O’Brien gained the goalkeeper honor. Harding’s Chris Hunt earned the defender accolade.
GAC Offensive Player of the Week – Haley Hatcher, Ouachita, F, Sr., Maumelle, Arkansas
Hatcher claimed the sixth GAC Player of the Week award of her career as the two-time GAC Offensive Player of the Year opened her senior season by scoring twice in the Tigers’ 6-0 victory against Rogers State. She netted her first tally on breakaway goal and added her second five minutes later when connected on a shot from 22 yards out.
GAC Defender of the Week – Shelibe Shawn, Oklahoma Baptist, D, Sr., Noble, Oklahoma
Shawn became the first Bison to win a GAC Women’s Soccer Weekly Award as she helped anchor the defense in a 2-1 win against Newman. She held the Jets scoreless on her side of the field and she shut down their most dangerous player for the entire game.
GAC Goalkeeper of the Week – Natasha Fuentes, Southern Nazarene, Jr., Yukon, Oklahoma
Fuentes picked up her second-career GAC Goalkeeper of the Year honor as she recorded a shutout in the Crimson Storm’s opening contest, a 1-0 win against Eastern New Mexico. The junior registered seven saves in notched the seventh shutout of her career.

• Siara Price, Sr., F, Southern Nazarene (Scored winning goal against Eastern New Mexico)
• Emma Beck, Jr., GK, Oklahoma Baptist (Came within 49 seconds of shutting out Newman, made six saves in 2-1 win)
GAC Offensive player of the Week – Tinashe Chigede, Ouachita, F, So., Tulsa, Oklahoma
Chigede, a 2014 Division II All-Central Region selection, opened his sophomore season by scoring twice in Ouachita’s season-opening 3-1 victory against Oklahoma Christian. Chigede first scored on a diving header in the 53rd minute. He netted his second goal on a penalty kick in the 81st minute.
GAC Defender of the Week – Curtis Hunt, Harding, D, Jr., Nashville, Tennessee
Hunt finished the opening week as one of only two Harding players to play all 200 minutes in Harding’s two games this week. He scored his first career goal on a header to the upper left corner in the 43rd minute against Oklahoma Christian. He played the full 110 minutes in to 1-1 tie against Dallas Baptist and helped hold the Patriots to seven shots.
GAC Goalkeeper of the Week – Ben O’Brien, Ouachita, So., Springdale, Arkansas
O’Brien began 2015 by posting a 1.33 goals-against average in 135 minutes of action. He split time in the Tigers’ 3-1 win against Oklahoma Christian. He made a pair of saves and did not allow a goal. Against No. 19 Christian Brothers, he made three saves
