Van Buren rallied at the top of the ninth and shut down Greenwood to pick up the Lady Pointers second win of the young season, 5-2.

Breanna Vest, who had a three-run home run in her first game of the season, rapped out a three-run double to put the Lady Pointers in the lead.

Tori Stafford wen the distance for the win with six strikeouts, gave up eight hits and hit two batters.

Vest, Stafford and Abby Killough had two hits each for Van Buren. Greenwood’s Mikayleigh Davis was 3-of-5 and Ulber was the only other batter with two or more hits.

The Lady Bullddogs grabbed a 2-1 lead when Greenwood’s Phoebe Ulmer hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. Greenwood had six hits through the first four innings, but was limited to just two for the duration of the game.

Van Buren tied up the game with Stafford’s solo home run in the sixth inning.

Greenwood threatened in the bottom of the seventh by loading up the bases with two outs after an bunt, a fielder’s choice and batter hit by a pitch. Destiny Moses completed a play to Hannah Young for the third out and ended the threat.

Kelsy Knox absorbed the loss for Greenwood when she came in relief in the seventh. Both Greenwood pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts.
