Mulberry picked up a split in its season and home opener Tuesday night.

The Lady Jackets had strong first half and four players reach double digits to win 63-40.

Sacred Heart rallied in the second quarter in the men’s game to take the lead and the 53-46 win.

The junior girls also won their opener 25-22.

Mulberry 60, Sacred Heart 43 (Women’s)

Brittany Edwards led a quartet of Mulberry’s players to double digits as she led her team with 17 points. Logan Archer and Lexi Voorhees added 11 points each and Sam Cagle tossed in 10.

Edwards had three of the teams seven three pointers. Archer paced the team with six rebounds. Cagle and Voorhees had four steals each as Mulberry forced 16 of Sacred Heart’s 25 turnovers.

Mulberry jumped to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter before the Lady Rebels got on board. The Lady ‘Jackets had a 13-0 run in the second quarter to lead 40-16 at the break.

Lindsey Bean came off the bench to lead Sacred Heart and the game with 18 points. Taylor Usery, who also had 12 points, pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.

Sacred Heart 53, Mulberry 46

The Rebels converted three turnovers in the second quarter to launch a 11-0 run to close out the first half with the lead.

Mulberry led 27-23 after a bucket by Dillon Jones with 3:07 remaining in the second quarter. Drew Bottoms broke away for the first steal to put Sacred Heart within two, and Alex Fresneda tied up the game with 2:35 remaining, 27-27. A score by Hunter Andrews gave the Rebels the lead for the rest of the game.

Sacred Heart was up 34-27 at the break.

The Rebels had an 8-2 run to start the second half to build it’s biggest lead, 42-29, of the game.

The Yellow Jackets had a 9-0 run in the third quarter cut the lead by four, 44-38, with :58 left, but couldn’t pull any closer.

Dillon Jones led with a double-double 19 points, 10 rebounds and Audie Stringer added added 13 points.

Bottoms led his squad with 16 points.

Junior High

Pleasant View 25, Sacred Heart 22

Destiny Freeman had 13 points and six rebounds to lead the Lady Hornets to their first win of the season.

Sacred Heart led 18-11 with 1:10 remaining in the third quarter, but Freeman sparked a small 7-0 run to tie up the game after a turnover at the 5:16 mark in the fourth quarter.

Pleasant View came back to lead 22-20 after Lexy Dunham scored with 2:15 remaining. Amanda Jones tied it back up and then added a free throw and the Lady Hornets led 23-22 with :39 remaining.

Freeman intercepted Sacred Heart’s next possession and after Sarah Lewis was sent to the free throw line for the final two points of the game.

Sacred Heart’s Toni Malik led her team with eight points and 10 rebounds.
