The Mountainburg Lady Dragons won their season opener at the Johnson County Tournament Saturday while Mulberry and Pleasant View picked up wins as well.

Mountainburg defeated Paris 39-38 to win the first round and advanced to face Atkins Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The Lady Dragons led 24-18 at the break and Mountainburg even extended the lead into double digits. Paris came back to tie up the game 38-38 when Tara Webb went the length of the court for the layup and was fouled with 7.7 seconds remaining.

Webb hit the front end of a one-and-one. Paris rebounded the second shot, but was unable to score again.

Webb, who is expected to sign with the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns basketball team Wednesday morning, led with 16 points. Kaylyn Moore tossed in 12 points and Auburn Peters added eight.

Mountainburg hits the road on Nov. 19 to play at West Fork.

Pleasant View-Mountainburg

Hornet Dalton Reeves hit the shot in double overtime with 10 seconds remaining to win 37-35.

It was Pleasant View’s second overtime game in four starts this season. The Hornets (4-0) have won three games by a combined three points so far.

Mountainburg’s Riley Dollard tied the game up in the first overtime, 31-31.

Quency Pixley hit a three pointer with 4.7 seconds remaining in regulation to tie up the game 29-29 to send it into the first overtime.

The Lady Dragons won their junior high debut, beating the Lady Hornets 35-20.

Addison Peters led with 14 points and Kristen Webb added 12.

Ashley Jones paced the Lady Hornets (3-1) with 14 points and Destiny Freeman had six.

Pleasant View travels to Western Yell County and will play in the Hackett Tournament starting on Nov. 18.

Mountainburg travels to St. Paul next week, Nov. 18, for their second game of the season.

Pleasant View-Oark

Both squads grabbed wins last back on Nov. 7.

The Hornets won 54-12 with Dalton Reeves leading with 15 and Trevor Martin added 14.

Amanda Jones had 16 points and Destiny Freeman tossed in 14 to lead the Lady Hornets to their third straight win, 38-17.


The Yellow Jackets (2-2) picked up their second consecutive win on Nov. 8 at Oark.

It was the third game of a four-game road swing for Mulberry to open the season. Mulberry traveled to Waldron Tuesday and will host Western Yell County on Friday for homecoming.

Audie Stringer scored 21 points as Mulberry won the men’s game 80-23. Keenan Reeves and Dillon Jones had 13 and 11 points respectively.

The Lady Yellow Jackets (2-2) halted a two-game skid with the 64-24 win.

Brittany Edwards paced her squad with 15 points and Logan Archer scored 14. Sam Cagle added 11 for Mulberry.
