Cedarville’s Garrett Parson and Mountainburg’s Lonnie Campbell combined for 56 of the 98 points scored Monday night, but a strong stretch in the first half put the Dragons behind as the Pirates picked up their first win, 56-42.

Parson scored a game-high 31 points while Campbell added 25. Cedarville junior Corey Fincher was the only other player in double-digits with 11 points.

Both teams opened the game on a trio of scoring bursts.

Cedarville struck first with an 8-0 run, with five points from Parson. Mountainburg responded with an 8-0 run of its own, with six points from Campbell to tie up the game, with 2:28 remaining in the quarter.

Over the next 7:17 of the first half, Cedarville constructed a 29-11 lead, thanks largely to a 14-0 run at the start and 12 points from Parson.

A 7-0 run at the start of the second half gave the Pirates (1-1) its second-largest lead of the night, 38-17, after a traditional three-point play from Parson at the 3:49 mark in the third quarter.

Cedarville held a slight edge on the boards, 32-30. Parson led his team with eight rebounds and Mountainburg’s Trey Allen also had eight rebounds. Campbell pulled down seven for the Dragons along with three blocks.

The Pirates led 56-32 after a bucket by Fincher with 2:55 remaining in the game. Both teams sent out the back-ups and Mountainburg cut into the lead for the final margin.

Mountainburg 43, Cedarville 36 (Women’s)

Auburn Peters picked up a double-double as the Lady Dragons utilized a strong scoring spree that lasted a over 8:19 in the second half to pull away for the win.

Peters was one of three Lady Dragons to reach double digits as she had 11 points and 13 rebounds. Kaylyn Moore powered most of the scoring spree herself and finished with a game-high 14 points. Tara Webb shot 6 of 10 from the free throw line and finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Moore began a 9-0 run for Mountainburg to give her team a 32-22 lead with 2:54 remaining in the third quarter. She hit a pair of threes and completed a traditional three-point play during the run.

Maddie Armer sank a three-point shot for Cedarville as the only points the Lady Pirates had during the 17-3 run that gave the Lady Dragons a 40-25 lead at the 4:37 mark in the fourth quarter.

Another trey by Armer cut into Mountainburg’s lead and Cedarville managed to cut the lead down to single digits, 40-31, with 2:48 remaining.

Mountianburg was 3 of 6 from the line down the stretch and the Lady Pirates continued to chip away, but simply ran out of time.

Cedarville’s Allie Arnold led her team with 10 points. Bailie Murphy and Armer chipped in nine and eight points respectively.

Mountainburg held the edge on the boards, 32-23. Colette Ross had six rebounds and a game-high four steals.

Cedarville traveled to Dardanelle Tuesday night. The Lady Dragons return to the court to face Booneville on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Lavaca Tournament.

Greenland 47, Mountainburg 32 (Women’s)

The Lady Dragons lost their first game of the season as Auburn Peters led with 13 points on Friday night.

Tara Webb added 10 and Kaylyn Moore tossed in seven.
