The Greenwood freshmen squad put on a show for the visiting team as Kenny Wood finished with 317 yards rushing and two touchdowns and Ethan Escalante scored seven touchdowns as Greenwood beat VBFA 60-35 at Harry Robinson Stadium.

VBFA was able to keep it close, but Greenwood scored on its first five possessions of the first half to lead 40-21 at the break.

Escalante scored on the second play of the game and Greenwood led 7-0 with 7:30 remaining in the quarter.

The Pointers responded with a seven-play drive starting at their own 39. Payton White helped the drive with a 24-yard run and it was capped with a 13-yard pass from Caleb Salisbury to Brycen St. Mary.

Wood had eight carries for 61 yards on the next Greenwood possession and the Bulldogs took the lead for good, 14-7 with 3:31 remaining in the quarter.

VBFA suffered the first of its five turnovers and Greenwood converted it into points to extend its lead 21-7 with :54 left in the first quarter. Greenwood then opted for an onside kick, recovered the ball and six plays later scored again to make it 27-7 at the 7:32 mark in the second quarter.

Both teams traded a couple of scores and Greenwood was up 47-21 by halftime.

White scored both TDs for VBFA on two-yard runs.

Escalante wrapped up the first half intercepting a pass and returning it about 71 yards for the touchdown with no time left on the clock.

The interception was the first of three consecutive for Salisbury as the first two drives of the second half ended with interceptions and the final turnover of the night was on a fumble at the Greenwood 5 late in the third quarter.

Salisbury did pick off two passes himself and returned one of them for and 80-yard touchdown to make it 47-28 with 6:28 remaining in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs scored on their next two possessions after VBFA turnovers to lead 60-28 at the 4:09 mark in the third quarter.

White finished with 151 yards on 25 carries and three touchdowns. Walter Green added 76 yards on three kickoff returns to help VBFA.

Wood had 145 yards on 15 carries before the end of the first quarter thanks to runs of 43 and 22 yards and the Bulldogs opting for an onside kick while leading 21-7. He scored on carries of eight and two yards.

Wood had four carries in the second half for 50 yards and finished averaging 11.3 yards per carry.

Escalante scored four rushing touchdowns and had nine carries for 61 yards and he caught three passes for 97 yards and two TDs, including an 80-yarder in the third quarter.

Mountainburg 36, Magazine 8

The Dragons won their finale Thursday night at home.

Connor Rogers had a TD reception and returned an interception for another score.

Robert Roxin threw for one score, returned a punt for another and had a touchdown run.

Austin Taylor added a rushing touchdown as well.

Farmington 13, Alma 7

The Cardinals scored the game-winning touchdown as the clock expired to hand the Airedales the nonconference loss on Thursday.

Tyler Alexander scored for Alma on a 23-yard run.

Greenland 20, Cedarville 6

The Pirates wrapped up their 2014 campaign, but coach Kevin Lea said his squad played well and ended the season on a good note. Dillon Hancock had over 100 yards receiving and rushing and scored the only touchdown for the Pirates.
