VBFA sweeps Pottsville while Cedarville tops Trinity in junior high games on Monday night.


The Van Buren Freshman Academy swept Pottsville in the final tune-up before River Valley Conference play begins on Thursday at Darby.

The VBFA Pointers won 37-36 as Beau Beckner and Jonny Harms each scored in double digits.

Beckner had 12 points and Harms added 11.

Logan Thomas added nine for the win.

The Pointers led 13-5 in the first quarter and was up 20-13 at halftime.

In the girls’ game, Pottsville led 18-17 by halftime after leading 13-7 in the first quarter. The Lady Pointers tied up the game 24-24 before the start of the final quarter.

Jamilyn Kinney led the team with 25 points and Londan Barlow added eight, while Katie Chenoweth chipped in four.


The Pirates defeated Trinity 47-43 in a non-conference game Monday night at home.

Justin Shelly and Dillon Strewlow reached double digits and scored 14 and 12 points each.

Colton McMellon and Andrew Hernandez had nine and eight points respectively.


The Lady Airedales dropped a 35-34 overtime decision to Fayetteville Ramay.

Bailey Jones had 19 points for Alma (2-2).

The Lady Airedales travels to Chaffin to open River Valley Conference play on Thursday.

The Airedales (3-1) finished their pre-conference schedule with a 50-46 win over Fayetteville Ramay and with a three-game win string.

Noah Dotson had 17 poitns and Nathan Corder added 10 points and six assists, while Isaac Posey tossed in nine.

"It was a pretty physical game and I was proud of our kids," said coach Eddie Corder. "We had several players step up (Monday) night."

The Airedales lost to Conway Blue at the Russellville tournament to open the season. Nathan Corder scored 14 points in that contest.

Alma then came back to win the next two games. The Airedales defeated Clarksville 58-41 as Nathan Corder led with 15 points and Dylan Mason chipped in 13. Posey paced Alma with nine points as the Airedales topped Cabot South, 44-31, to wrap up the Russellville tournament.

Eighth Grade

Northridge defeated Poteau 48-22 in the first round of the Poteau Tournament on Monday night.

Ryan Hewett and Isaac Lipe had 12 points each.

The Northridge Pointers advance to Thursday’s semifinals.

The Northridge Lady Pointers fell 37-27 to Poteau at the tournament.

Northridge will play in the consolation game Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Naesha Smith led Northridge with 10 points.

Butterfield Trail Middle School fell 23-12 to Pottsville on Monday in the girls game.

BTMS and Pottsville were tied 4-4 after the first quarter, but Pottsville took a 14-6 lead by halftime.

Caroline Davis led with six points while Lindsey Gooch and Makiaya Fey had two points each.

BTMS won its first game of the season, 27-23, at Waldron back on Nov. 19, as Davis scored 10 points and Caitlin Perry added seven. The team has since lost its last three games, but two of those losses came against ninth grade teams.
