The Lady Pointers moved to the top of the River Valley Conference with Monday’s win over Darby, while he Pointers remained one game behind Kimmons as the Van Buren freshmen grabbed another win.

Van Buren 48, Darby 43 (Boys)

The Pointers and the Rangers battled closely for three quarters, but Van Buren held a slight edge, 31-30, heading into the final frame.

Both Beau Beckner and Jonny Harms scored 14 points each to help pace the Pointers. Kyle Porter and James Montgomery had six points each.

The Rangers (2-2 RVC) led 11-10 after the first quarter, but the Van Buren Freshman Academy took the lead, 23-22, by halftime.

The Pointers improved to 12-2 overall winning their seventh consecutive game and to 4-1 in conference play. Van Buren’s last loss was to Kimmons back on Dec. 9.

Van Buren 37, Darby 19 (Girls)

The Lady Pointers broke from the conference’s three-way tie for first on Monday and moved a half a game ahead of Kimmons and Alma.

Van Buren improved to 11-3 overall with their fourth consecutive win and 4-1 in the conference.

Jamilyn Kinney scored 22 points for the second consecutive game to pace the Lady Pointers. Both Addie Outlaw and Londan Barlow chipped in five points each.

Van Buren 40, Pea Ridge 38 (Boys)

Jonny Harms hit a three pointer at the buzzer to secure the win for the Pointers in a nonconference game on Saturday.

Van Buren trailed 7-5 after the first quarter, but came back to lead 20-14 at the break. The Blackhawks then scored 19 points in the third quarter to go back up, 33-26.

The Pointers battled, but trailed 38-37 until Harms hit his trey to seal the win.

Van Buren improved to 11-2 on the season and will host Greenwood in a River Valley Conference game on Thursday.

Harms finished with nine points and Beau Beckner led Van Buren with 16. Logan Thomas added eight and Connor Catron chipped in five.

Van Buren 43, Pea Ridge 17 (Girls)

The Lady Pointers opened the contest with a 21-point first-half lead, while the Pointers held off a second half push by the Blackhawks to secure the victory.

Jamilyn Kinney scored 22 points and Londan Barlow added eight in the win. The Lady Pointers improved to 10-3 overall this season.

Van Buren led 30-9 in the first half and was up 40-11 to start the fourth quarter. Five other Van Buren players contributed to the scoring.


Ryan Hewett scored 14 points in Northridge’s 31-22 win over Pea Ridge on Saturday.

Northridge’s seventh graders defeated Union Christian 31-15 on Monday night. Braden Fimple led with eight points with both Logan Humphries and Laiken Stikeleather adding six points each.
