The VBFA Pointers ended their 2014-15 campaign with a win and a series sweep against Greenwood on Monday night.
The Pointers had 10 different players contribute to the scoring as VBFA won 39-29 at the Freshman Academy.
VBFA jumped to a 8-2 lead in the first quarter and extended the lead by 10, 18-8, at halftime.
The Pointers added a couple more baskets to start the second half with a 22-8 advantage with 4:55 remaining in the quarter, but Greenwood stormed back and cut the lead by four, 22-18, with a 10-0 run.
VBFA then launched a 17-0 run of its own that lasted until 3:53 remaining in the game to go up 35-18.
Ryan Hewett led the game with 13 points while Isaac Lip added six and Koby Fry, came off the bench to contribute five.
Greenwood 35, VBFA 17 (Girls)
The Lady Bulldogs were sent to the line 11 times and shot 18 of 22 from the charity stripe to help themselves to the win on Monday.
The Lady Pointers were penalized a total of 16 times. In contrast, Greenwood drew just six fouls.
VBFA led early 5-3, but Greenwood hit its stride to take a 13-0 run into the second quarter to build a 16-5 lead with 3:49 left in the half.
The Lady Pointers battled back and cut the lead by four, 18-14, with a three-pointer and a bucket from Caroline Davis. However, Greenwood got a free pass to the line with 17.3 seconds remaining in the third quarter to lead 20-14.
The Lady Bulldogs then had a 14-0 run in the fourth thanks to six points from the charity stripe.
Greenwood’s Kyiah Julian was 11 of 12 from the line and finished with a game-high 15 points.
Davis paced Van Buren with six points and five rebounds. Lindsey Gooch tossed in four.
