Van Buren sweeps both games at Greenwood on Monday while Alma picked up a win at Shiloh Christian.

Mountainburg’s girls team defeated Johnson County Westside to clinch the district tournament title.

Van Buren 49, Greenwood 36 (Girls)

Taylar Sutton scored 22 points and Jamilyn Kinney added 21 to help the Lady Pointers power past Greenwood on Monday.

Van Buren led 24-17 at halftime, but took a 41-24 lead to start the fourth quarter.

Addie Outlaw added six points for Van Buren (18-4, 11-2).

The Lady Pointers are in a three-way tie for first in the River Valley Conference, and it’s a perfect three-way tie as well. Van Buren has lost games to Alma and Kimmons, while Alma has lost a game to Van Buren and Kimmons, and the Lady Raiders have also lost a game to Van Buren and Alma. However, Van Buren will take the No. 1 seed going to the 7A West Regional tournament if it beats Shiloh Christian by more than seven points on Thursday.

Van Buren 59, Greenwood 37 (Boys)

The Pointers (19-3, 11-2) built a 41-12 halftime lead to wrap up its 11th conference win this season.

Van Buren will finish runner-up to Kimmons (12-0) and take the No. 2 seed to the 7A West Regional tournament in Siloams Springs next week.

Beau Beckner led with 16 points and Jonny Harms added 13. Van Buren had eight other players contribute to the scoring.

Alma 64, Shiloh 38 (Boys)

The Airedales built a solid lead to beat the Saints in Springdale Monday night.

Three players reached double digits for Alma as Noah Dotson paced the junior high squad with 19 points and seven rebounds. Isaac Posey added 15 points and Drake Pendergraft had 10 points and four rebounds.

Coach Eddie Corder said that Kessler Nye did a good job rebounding and on defense. Nye finished with four rebounds and Nathan Corder had seven assists.

Alma hosts Greenwood at the arena on Thursday for the final regular season game.


The Lady Dragons junior high squad won the district tournament on Saturday after playing two games on the same day.

Mountainburg won the semifinal contest against Magazine and then defeated Johnson County Westside in the finale.

Westside had won the conference this season.

Mountainburg fought off a second-half rally to topple Westside 35-28.

The Lady Dragons led 14-9 in the first quarter, but the Lady Rebels battled back and tied up the game 23-23 going into the fourth quarter.

Both teams struggled offensively for most of the fourth quarter which left the game tied 26-26 with 2:07 remaining in the contest.

Mountainburg broke the tie and outscored Westside 7-2 down the stretch.

Addison Peters led with 16 points, while both Shelby Watkins and Britton Peters had six points each.

The Lady Dragons defeated Magazine 34-18 after limiting the Lady Rattlers to just five points in the first half.

Moutainburg opened with a 8-1 lead and was ahead 17-5 by halftime.

Addison Peters led with 18 points while Britton Peters tossed in eight.

County Line 39, Pleasant View 23 (Boys)

Pleasant View finished runner-up in the district tournament to County Line.

The Hornets fell behind 13-2 in the first quarter and trailed 31-17 at the start of the fourth quarter.

Dalton Reeves led with 13 points.
