Anderson Earns All-America Honor

FAYETTEVILLE —Arkansas junior Brian Anderson was named a second-team preseason All-American by Perfect Game USA on Monday.

Anderson was selected after leading Arkansas at the plate in 2012, hitting .325 with 4 home runs and 36 RBIs. The Deer Creek, Okla., native struggled defensively as a sophomore, committing a team-high 20 errors. Most of the mistakes came on throwing errors from either third base or shortstop.

But Anderson was selected as a second-team All-American as a second baseman, which is where he spent most of the fall before being sidelined after suffering a stress fracture in his foot. Anderson — who is expected to be healthy in time for the season — is projected as Arkansas starting second baseman. He also can play shortstop, third base or in the outfield.

Arkansas will open preseason practice Friday at 2 p.m. Arkansas will open the season with a three-game series against Appalachian State beginning Feb. 14.
