Golden Suns remain at No. 4

RUSSELLVILLE — Arkansas Tech remains in the top end of this week’s NCAA Division II Central Region rankings, checking in at No. 4 in this week’s poll. The Golden Suns were idle this week, and will compete next week at the Great American Conference championship tournament. Northeastern State and Augustana maintained the top two spots in the poll, while Central Oklahoma and the Golden Suns switched from last week’s third- and fourth-rankings. Lindenwood remains fifth, while Henderson State and Southwestern Oklahoma switch spots from last week, with the Reddies coming in at No. 6 while SWOSU is No. 7. The top twelve teams in the region poll, and top six individuals from non-advancing teams, will advance to compete in the 2016 Central Super Regional, to be played May 2-4 at the Awarii Dunes Golf Club in Axtell, Nebraska.

Arkansas Tech sits at No. 1 in regional

RUSSELLVILLE — The No. 8 Arkansas Tech Golden Suns (41-6, 31-5 Great American Conference) remains atop the second NCAA Central Region poll of the 2016 season, announced Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA. The Central Region is comprised of teams from the GAC, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The top eight teams in each region at the conclusion of the season will advance to postseason play, with the champions of the GAC, MIAA, and NSIC receiving automatic bids into the tournament. The Golden Suns are followed by Northwest Missouri, who moved up into the No. 2 position. Southern Arkansas fell to No. 3, while Missouri Western held steady at No. 4. Minnesota State remains fifth. The Golden Suns conclude the 2016 regular season this weekend at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex with a four-game series against Northwestern Oklahoma. Friday’s doubleheader begins at 3 p.m., while Saturday’s doubleheader is set for noon.
