Lady Reddies show valiant effort in loss

Stephen F. Austin used a strong second-half push to beat Henderson State 72-56 Thursday, in exhibition women’s basketball action in Nacogdoches, Texas.

The Lady Reddies hung tough with their Division I foe and rebounded from an early deficit going on a 12-2 run to take a 16-12 lead with 10:49 to play in the opening half. Krystal Beachum scored seven of her 11 points during the spurt, while the Lady Reddie defense forced four SFA turnovers.

Aungelique Sledge scored 21 points to lead Henderson State, while Tiara Davis chipped in with 12 points. Beachum pulled down 12 rebounds to go along with her 11 points.

The Lady Reddies will next play host to Missouri S&T on Saturday.

Poor start dooms UALR

RUSTON, La. — The UALR women’s basketball team played a much stronger second half than first, but its poor opening 20 minutes doomed the team in a 50-39 loss at Louisiana Tech on Friday night.

The Trojans (4-5) managed just 12 points in the first half on 5 of 28 shooting and allowed 26 points by the Lady Techsters (4-7). That 14-point deficit proved too much to overcome despite the Trojans outscoring LA Tech and cutting down on mistakes drastically in the second period.

UALR got a team-high 10 points from Taylor Gault – all of them in the second half – while Kaitlyn Pratt led the way with 12 rebounds. Taylor Ford and Kiera Clark each had three assists while Ford brought down seven rebounds. Shanity James had nine points and eight rebounds at the end of the contest.

The Trojans now head into a brief holiday break before returning to action at home on Dec. 29 when UALR will take on visiting South Dakota State

Tigers halt skid

ARKADELPHIA — The Ouachita Tigers (3-6) ended a six-game skid with a 92-69 win over LSU-Shreveport (6-6) this afternoon at Bill Vining Arena. The Tigers shot 59% from the field and finished 8-15 from the three-point line. Freshman Allen Buchanan led the Tigers with 24 points.

Fason shot 10-15, scoring 21 points and pulled down a game-high 8 rebounds. Micah Delph scored 13 and dished out a game-high nine assists. David Day (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored a season-high 11 points.

The Tigers are off until Jan. 2, when they’ll resume conference play at home in Bill Vining Arena against Southern Nazarene.

Dillard nets career high as UALR tops Jacksonville State

ROAD TOWN, Tortola — Junior Ben Dillard scored a career-best 18 points to lead four Trojans in double figures as UALR (4-6) topped Jacksonville State (5-9) 75-50 in game one of the BVI Tropical Shootout at the Multi-Purpose Complex. The Trojans will face the winner of Southern Miss and Coppin State on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Sophomore Josh Hagins chipped in 16 points and grabbed six rebounds in 33 minutes.

Senior Will Neighbour tallied his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore James White finished a point shy of his second career double-double with nine points and a career-high 12 boards. Isler scored 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting.
