The Waldron Bulldogs held off a Mulberry rally in a nonconference game on Tuesday at "Cotton" Havener Gymnasium to win 40-37.

Trailing 36-30 at the start of the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets (2-3) cut the lead to one, 37-36, after Trevor Marvin hit a free throw with 1:20 remaining in the game. The Bulldogs answered by making one shot with 28.6 seconds left to extend the lead, 38-36.

Mulberry missed it’s shot with 14.8 remaining and immediately fouled Waldron. The Class 4A Bulldogs added two more points off of free throws, and led 40-36.

Luke Anderson was fouled and made one free throw at the .7 mark in the fourth, for the final margin, 40-37.

Both teams were tied up 12-12 after the first quarter. Waldron started to pull away in the second quarter to lead 28-23.

Marvin led Mulberry with nine points and Dalton Reeves added eight. Keegan Brake and Eli Whitlock both had six points each.

The Lady Yellow Jackets bounced back from their first loss of the season to beat Class 4A Waldron Tuesday night.

Mulberry (3-1) had a slim lead, 13-12, in the first quarter, but led 26-16 at the break and 44-28 after three quarters of play.

Brittany Edwards led the Lady Yellow Jackets with 20 points and Sam Cagle chipped in 13. Rebecca Treat added nine.

WYC 24 (Boys’)

The Hornets jumped to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter and carried a 14-2 advantage at halftime win win Thursday at "Cotton" Havener Gymnasium.

Caleb Hendricks led the team with nine points while both Todd Brown and Zach MacKay added eight points each. Jorden Stepusin added seven.

(Girls’)

The Lady Rebels held a slim margin at the end of the first quarter, 9-7, but kept piling on and limited the Lady Hornets the duration of the game.

Amanda Jones led Pleasant View with nine points.
