The Airedales blocked a field goal attempt by the Devil Dogs to secure a 23-22 win in the 5A West contest Friday night in Morrilton.

Alma scored right inside the fourth quarter and missed the two-point conversion, but led 15-14.

The Devil Dogs reclaimed the lead with 3:51 left in the game to go up 22-15.

Alma came back with a big return and set up camp at the Morrilton 44. The Airedales score and goes for two to go up 23-22, with 2:32 remaining in the contest.

The Devil Dogs reached the Alma 19 with 0:03 left in regulation.

The Airedales hit Morrilton first in the second quarter to lead 6-0.

The Devil Dogs took the lead 7-6 right before halftime.

Alma came out of the gate to start the second half and move ahead 9-7 with a field goal at the 8:54 mark. The Devil Dogs responded on their next drive and led 14-9.

Van Buren

The Pointers kept it close for nearly two quarters, but Fayetteville pulled away for good for the 50-14 win in Northwest Arkansas on Friday night.

Fayetteville led 14-0 by the time Van Buren got on the board with an 80-yard touchdown pass from Gary Phillips to Jude Bartholomew.

The Pointers had a couple of opportunities in the first half to either tie or cut into the Bulldog’s lead, but came up short.

Fayetteville had another big run and was up 21-7 early in the second quarter.

Phillips and Bartholomew connected for another TD to cap a 75-yard drive with 5:16 remaining in the half, with Van Buren trailing 21-14.

Fayetteville answered back with a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

The Bulldogs scored again on its next possession and extended their lead 35-14.


The Pirates got back on the winning track and routed the Eagles’ homecoming festivities 58-23.

Cedarville led early 8-0, but Paris scored back-to-back touchdowns to go up 14-8 early in the second quarter.

The Pirates took back the lead, 16-14, but the Eagles drills a 23-yard field goal with 5:31 left in the second quarter, to reclaim the lead 17-16.

Cedarville scored back-to-back touchdowns to extend its lead 32-17, but Paris’ Tyler Gierke breaks away for a big gain, to cut back into the lead, 32-23 with 1:00 remaining in the half. The Pirates extended its lead 42-23 by the end of the third quarter.


The Dragons defeated Johnson County Westside 66-28. Mountainburg (4-1, 2-0) hosts Western Yell County next week.
