Russellville did what it needed as the Cyclones defeated Alma 31-0 on Friday night at Citizens Bank Field at Airedale Stadium.
Cyclone senior Rhett Adkins was 30 of 41 for 296 yards and one touchdown. Adkins had just three pass plays go for more than 20 yards as Alma was effective in slowing down the running game.
Russellville had just 17 yards in the first half on the ground and finished with 84.
The Cyclones opened the second half with the kickoff return to the Cyclone 46. Adkins guided the offense for seven plays and hit Palmer from four yards out to complete the first touchdown of the night.
Two possessions later Adkins ran in a score from the Alma 15 to make it 31-0 with 8:00 remaining in the game.
Russellville took an early in the first half starting with a 24-yard field goal by Conner Cooper.
On the Cyclones’ next possession, the squad reached the Alma 3 before it stalled. The Airedales got the ball back, but two plays later Jacob Luster made the stop in the end zone and Russellville led 5-0.
Russellville added two more field goals to extend the lead 11-0 at halftime.

Adkins had a stellar first half as he was 16 of 24 passing for 192 yards. Russellville had nine first downs through the passing game in the first half.
Jaidon Palmer had eight catches for 123 yards. Russellville’s ground game was only 17 yards on 16 plays.
Alma’s offense was limited to 106 yards on 40 plays. Keegan Roseberry had 10 carries for 41 yards to pace the Airedale offense.
Daniel Ortega made two sacks in the first half. Kyle England and Cole Covington each had a sack.
Josh Davis had a 62-yard punt return for Alma in the first half.
