Van Buren and Rogers battled back and forth Thursday evening, but the Lady Pointers prevailed by winning the decisive fifth set.

The Lady Pointers opened the match with a 25-13, but the Lady Mounties came back to edge out the second 21-25. Van Buren took a two-set lead with the third set (25-16), but Rogers battled back to tie the match in the fourth set.

Van Buren won the tiebreaker 15-5.

“I’m proud of them in their fight (Thursday) night against a very scrappy Rogers team,” said coach Brent Reeves. “One thing you look for as a coach is improving every game and I see that.”

Mikelle Porter had 29 assists and Alex Dupree added 12 kills. Madalyn Doolittle, Grace Doolittle, and Bailey Brooks had five kills each.

Zoe Morrison tallied five digs.

Van Buren hosts Bentonville for another 7A West match on Tuesday.


The Pointers edged out Har-Ber by one stroke on Thursday.

Cade Wallace was the medalist winner, turning in a low-round of 40. Van Buren won 173-174.

Luke Dennis had a 42 followed by Tucker Anders (43) and Chandler Woolsey (48). Garrison Musgraves and Caleb Jones each had 54, but only the top four scores were counted towards the match.

Har-Ber was led by Riley Stamps (42).

Dixie Taylor fired off a 63 and Haylie Girvin turned in a 68.
