The University of Central Arkansas Bears celebrated Senior Day on Saturday, but could not pull off a victory in their final home game of the season, falling 5-1 to the Southeastern Louisiana Lions on a hot day at Bear Stadium.

The Bears (31-20, 17-10) remained in third place in the Southland Conference behind No. 1 Sam Houston State and SLU.

UCA finishes the conference season next weekend at Nicholls State after a matchup with the Little Rock Trojans on Tuesday night at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock.

The Lions (34-19, 21-9) scored all the runs they would need Sunday in the second inning without the benefit of a hit.

UCA starter Mark Moyer walked the bases loaded, with runs scoring on a pair of fielder's choices and a throwing error.

SLU, which won the final two games of the series after UCA's 7-6 win on Friday night, added a single run in the top of the fifth before the Bears got their lone run in the bottom of that inning.

Senior Michael Haun walked to lead off the inning, went to third on William Hancock's single up the middle and scored on a double-play ground ball.

The Lions picked up one more insurance run in the eighth for starter Corey Gaconi (6-1), who went the distance, allowing seven hits and one run while striking out six.

The Bears put runners on base in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, but Gaconi worked out of all three jams.

Junior right fielder Coby Potvin went 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot and was the only Bear with multiple hits.

Starting center fielder Keaton Presley missed the game with an injury, with staff ace Tyler Gray also not pitching in the series.

UCA had 11 seniors playing their final home game of the season, including Haun, Presley, Gray, Josh Somdecerff, Eddy Sanchez, Dusty Wright, Colby LeBlanc, Justin McCarty, Rigo Aguilar, Will Brand and Joey Pinney.

The seniors' mothers threw out the ceremonial first pitches to their sons on Mother's Day.

That group of seniors has combined to win 123 games over the past four seasons and made four consecutive appearances in the Southland Conference Tournament, including a runner-up finish last season.

UCA and Little Rock meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday night in the final game of the annual "Rock N Roar Rivalry." Tickets are on sale at the UCA ticket office (852-2234).

The UCA-Nicholls series begins Thursday night at 6 p.m. in Thibodaux, Louisiana.

The 2018 SLC Tournament is set for May 23-26 at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas.
