Van Buren held off a small Mount St. Mary surge in the third quarter to win 59-38 on Tuesday in Conway.

Jentry Myers led with 15 points while Kayleigh Evans tossed in 14. Jamilyn Kinney added 12.

Van Buren will face Vanita (Okla.) on Thursday (Dec. 7) in the opening game of the 2017 Tournament of Champions held at Northside in Fort Smith.

Moutainburg’s Kassy Pense scored 14 points as the Lady Dragons defeated Elkins 52-41 on Thursday (Nov. 30) night during the second round of the Decatur Tournament. It was the third consecutive win for the Lady Dragons.

Both Shelby Watkins and Greta Rutherford had 11 points each for Mountainburg (3-2), who faced Magazine on Friday (Dec. 1).

Elkins defeated the Dragons 77-31 on Thursday (Nov. 30). Connor Rogers led with nine points.

Lady Dragons defeated Decatur Tuesday night by a score of 46-21. Kassy Pense and Greta Rutherford finished 13 points each. The Dragons (3-2) had four players reach double digits as Mountainburg topped host Decatur 71-38.

Levi Burrough paced the team with 14 points while Connor Rogers added 13. Jesse Canada and Winston Shepherd had 11 points each.

Mulberry rolled past Exeter 63-38 in the consolation round of the Decatur tournament on Wednesday.


Right before the break, the Lady Airedales defeated Clarksville 45-26. Loryn Kelley led with 20 points. Ariel Towns-Robinson added 13 and Sidney Hatley tossed in seven. Alma dropped at 27-22 decision to Pottsville on Thursday (Nov. 30).

The Lady Airedales led 11-8 after the first quarter but trailed 14-13 by halftime.

Towns-Robinson led with 13 points and Sidney Hatley added four.

“We got off to a great start, but got into foul trouble early and struggled the rest of the game on offense with some of my better offensive players on the bench (because of foul trouble),” said coach Bryan Jernigan. “It was a good learning experience for us. We finally had a close game which hopefully we can learn from before we start conference play Monday night at Chaffin.”


Butterfield Trail dropped a 32-28 decision to Sallisaw at the Muldrow tournament. Both Allie Moss and Emilee Sycrok will have eight points each.

Northridge’s eighth grade split its contests for the week. The squad picked up a win on Monday (Nov. 27) as it rallied back from a 12-7 deficit to win 19-17 over Ozark. Brooklyn Fancher led with six points and Kara Chenoweth added four. Lily Rhoades tossed in three.

On Tuesday (Nov. 28) the eighth grade lost 40-22 to Magazine, while the seventh grade won 28-12. Bailey Wilson led the seventh grade with 10 points, while both Kaylee Barbour and Alexis McKowan added eight each. Fancher led with eight in the loss.

Northridge’s seventh grade also split a couple of games against Alma on Wednesday (Nov. 29). The Alma Green team ran away with a 39-11 win in the first contest. Bailey Wilson led NMS with eight points. Lydia Mann paced the Green squad with 18 points while Magen Sharp and Makia Cravey tossed in nine and eight points respectively.

In the second game, Northridge won 24-17 as Bailey Wilson led with 14 points. Helena Duggar tossed in six points for the Alma Gold team. Both Macybeth Tobler and Samantha Crook both added four each.
