With four games remaining in the season, the Airedales wrapped up another bid to the 7A West Regional tournament.

Alma defeated Darby 53-44 on Monday after climbing out of a 10-point deficit in the first quarter. The win solidified Alma’s spot in the tournament. The Airedales currently sit at the No. 2 position with a league record, 8-2. Kimmons remains perfect at 10-0 and Darby is third at 7-3. Alma travels to Kimmons on Thursday for another key River Valley Conference contest.

“I was proud of our kids for bouncing back after our loss at Ramsey,” said coach Eddie Corder. “We had a great team win and will need a similar effort on the road against Kimmons. Proud of these kids.”

The contest didn’t start the way Corder and company wanted as Darby took a 10-0 lead with 3:30 remaining in the first quarter.

After Alma’s second timeout in the quarter, the Airedales closed out the quarter on a 14-2 run to take the lead, 14-12 and extended it to 22-12 in the second.

Darby rallied back and got within four, 22-18, but Alma finished the first half with another run and led 29-19.

Bobby Winfrey led Alma with 19 points (3 of 3 from behind arch and 4 of 4 free throws) and added six rebounds. Cejay Mann had 11 points and four assists. Grayson Bailey inched close to a double-double with nine points and seven rebounds.

Gabe Jensen kept Darby’s 6-6 post player in check and tossed in points, while DJ George chipped in five.

ALMA 32, DARBY 20

GIRLS — The Airedalettes also moved into second in the River Valley Conference and secured their spot in the regional after their win on Tuesday.

The win keeps Alma two games behind Greenwood (10-0) and one game ahead of Kimmons (7-3).

London Blackwell led with nine points, while Zoie McGhee and Jasmine Higgins had eight points each. Malia Shipman pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and Hillarie Mata led with four assists.

VAN BUREN

The Lady Pointers escaped Fort Smith on Monday with a 35-33 win at Chaffin. Van Buren (3-7) is two games behind No. 4 Trinity with four games remaining on the schedule. The Lady Pointers have Ramsey (0-10), Alma (8-2), Greenwood (10-0) and Trinity (5-5) left to play this season.

Chaffin defeated Van Buren 44-39 in the boys game.

HIGH SCHOOL

Cedarville dropped a pair of games to Ozark on Friday. The Hillbillies won the men’s contest 52-43. The Lady Pirates lost a close game, 55-52. … Mulberry jumped on Hartford with a 13-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back as three players reached double digits in the 64-39 win. Trevor Marvin led with 27 points and Shawn Price tossed in 19. Brendon Lawson added 17 while Cody Mason contributed nine in the win. The Yellow Jackets led 35-13 at halftime. … Hartford rallied in the second half to defeat the Lady Jackets 32-24 on Thursday night. Mulberry held a slim 11-9 lead at the break.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Butterfield Trail edged Chaffin 32-30 on Monday night. Easton Reichard drained four treys and finished with 14 points. Butterfield Trail hit eight treys for the contest. … Alma’s Seth Cole scored 12 points as the Airedales (11-3) defeated Darby 40-32. Austin Cluck and Nate Whalen had seven and six points respectively.
