Lady Pointers reach Neosho finals; Mulberry splits opening rounds at Mansfield.

Jamilyn Kinney scored 20 points to help Van Buren reach the finals of the Neosho Holiday Classic after defeating Lafayette St. Joe (Mo.) 57-27.

The Lady Pointers (7-3) faced host Neosho in Friday’s championship game.

Also for Van Buren, Lani Snowden connected for 16 points.

The Pointers dropped its opening contest but went on to defeat East Newton High School 62-43 and host Neosho 58-57.

Van Buren will get an early 7A West preview as it faced Har-Ber in the ninth-place game on Friday morning.

VAN BUREN 39, MCDONALD COUNTY, MO. 5

WOMEN’S — Bailey Jones and Lani Snowden scored eight and seven points, respectively, Wednesday to power Van Buren (6-3) to a blowout win over McDonald County, Mo., in the first round of the Neosho Holiday Classic.

Taylar Sutton and Jamilyn Kinney added six and eight points, respectively, for the Pointers.

MULBERRY 50, MAGAZINE 38

MEN’S — The Mulberry Yellowjackets pulled away from Magazine on Wednesday at the Bill Frye Classic. The two teams were tied at 27 after three quarters.

Trevor Marvin scored 21 points to pace the Yellowjackets. Teammate Tyler Rice added 15.

For Magazine, Randon Baumgartner led the way with 15 points, while James Burr 13 for the Rattlers.

MAGAZINE 56, MULBERRY 29

WOMEN’S — Keaira Thomas scored 14 of her game-high 18 points in the first half Wednesday to power Magazine to a 56-29 win over Mulberry at the Bill Frye Classic.

Teammates Rachael Phillips and Kalyn Bryan added 12 points each for the winners.

Amanda Jones and Destiny Freeman led Mulberry with 10 and eight points, respectively.
