Alma sends a quintet of players to the Class 5A state tournament.

The Alma High School tennis team qualified five players for the upcoming 5A State Tennis Tournament to be held Oct. 17-18 in Hot Springs.

Qualifying for the state tournament is Breanna Williams (women’s singles), Andrea Griffin and Karen Morris (women’s doubles) along with Jacob Hamilton and Dalton Webb (men’s doubles).

The Airedalette tennis team won all of their first-round matches with Williams defeating Hannah Bean (Clarksville) and teammate Lauren Evans defeating Olivia Eddings (Harrison).

The doubles team of Katie Fisher and Chloe Ray defeated a Clarksville duo to also advance to the 2nd round.

After a first-round bye, the No. 2 seeded team of Griffin and Morris topped a Greenbrier duo and earned a semifinal berth. Williams advanced to the singles semifinal round by beating the No. 4 seed Brittany Mayes (Vilonia). Williams dropped her match to No. 1 seed Claire Doshier (Harrison) in the semifinals. Williams earned the No. 3 seed by winning the consolation round.

Griffin and Morris won their semifinal match against the Harrison duo before falling in the finals to the No. 1 seed from Harrison.

The Airedale tennis team won their opening round matches in men’s doubles with Lane Caldwell and Gabe Jensen defeating a duo from Harrison. Hamilton and Webb edged won their first two rounds against teams from Vilonia and Farmington before falling to the No. 1 seeded team from Greenbrier in three sets.
