Van Buren begins the cross country season at Memphis classic.

Van Buren took a contingent of runners to the participate in the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic held on Sept. 3 hosted by Christian Brothers University.

It serves as the season opener for many collegiate and high school teams.

Mason Hayes had the best time for the Pointers has he completed the course in 17 minutes, 45.5 seconds for 109th place. Hayes was followed by Remi Mulloy (18:39.21), Colin Rogers (18:49.34), Travis Cooper (18:49.65), Cameron Rush (19:21.39) and Caleb Lawley (20:56.83).

Junior Daisy Connor ran her course in 22:17.04 to place 130th out of 298 competitors. Also, running for Van Buren was Raegan Giberson (22:34.99) and Riley Giberson (23:43.75).

Van Buren will participate in the Fort Smith meet on Saturday at Ben Geren Park starting at 9 a.m. The first of three VBSD Elementary meets will also be held on Saturday at the high school starting at 9 a.m.
