The Mountainburg Dragons held county rival scoreless in the season opener.

Mountainburg grabbed its eighth shutout of the series with Cedarville as the Dragons defeated the Pirates 35-0 in the Battle of the Crawford County Treasure Chest Friday night at Dragon Field.
Junior Robert Roxin led the game with 16 carries for 121 yards and one touchdown. Senior Shane Rye added two touchdowns on 11 carries and 41 yards.
Quency Pixley finished with 4 of 15 for 53 yards with five of those passes dropped by receivers. Elisha Vanourny, who was expected to sit out this season due to an injury, saw limited action as he caught two passes for 13 yards. Vanourny did receive a 64-yard touchdown pass in the second half, as he caught the ball in full stride, but it the play was called back due to a penalty by Mountainburg.
In all, the Dragons suffered seven penalties on offense for a total of 40 yards. However, Mountainburg was able to overcome each penalty as none of them stalled a drive.
The Pirates gave back 44 yards in penalties, which helped Moutainburg sustain a number of touchdown drives.
One was a pass-interference call which put the Dragons first-and-four on the Pirate 4. On the next play, Rye scored his first of two touchdowns with 4:26 remaining in the first half. Another pass-interference call moved Mountainburg to the Pirate 44 in the third quarter. Pixley hit Jaden Carver for a 28-yard strike. Roxin scored his touchdown five plays later to give the Dragons a 21-0 lead with 7:02 remaining in the third quarter.
Mountainburg scored on their next two possessions to put the game out of reach. Rye scored from the goal line and Nathan Biddy reached the end zone on a three-yard run to make it 35-0 with 3:44 left in the game.
After the Dragons forced Cedarville to start the game going three-and-out, Mountainburg took over on their own 47.
Carver scored eight plays later at the 7:41 mark in the first quarter.
Pixley was 5 of 5 on PATs.
Cedarville struggled offensively with just 167 yards with 106 through the air. Andrew Hernandez was 4 of 16 for 106 yards. Dillion Strelow had four catches for 84 yards. Dakota Hopewell caught the other pass for 22 yards.
The Pirates featured 10 backs carrying the ball. Damian Adams had six carries for 23 yards while Strelow finished with 19 yards on three totes.
Cedarville reached the Dragon 24 on a fourth-and-nine but failed to convert on a pass attempt.
