Tre Norwood is excited to be at Van Buren.
Norwood is one of three players competing for the starting job at quarterback for the Pointers along with senior Tobin Johnson and junior Jordan Barlow.
"It makes me work harder," Norwood said. "I have fun competing. It just makes me want it more."
If the name sounds familiar, Tre Norwood is the son of Mike Norwood, Jr., and the grandson of Mike Norwood, former coach at Van Buren.
"They both started me a young age to be a quarterback, and it just went from there," said Norwood. "Yeah, I get a lot of advice from them."
Van Buren departs its normal schedule since Alma is now part of the 7A/6A Central and will travel to White Hall to open the season on Sept. 5. The Pointers return home to host Poteau (Okla.) in the home opener.
Norwood has lived in Van Buren, but attended Kimmons last season where he was quarterback. The Red Raiders finished 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the River Valley Conference. He also played basketball for a team that was undefeated in conference play.
"I stay busy," said Norwood. "I just find it fun to just keep going. If I stop, I just get lazy. So, I just keep going.
"This is fun."
