The Crawford County Retired Teachers Association (CCRTA) is an organization of retired school personnel who reside in Crawford County or have worked for one of the five school districts in Crawford County. Anyone who receives a check from the Arkansas Teachers Retirement System is eligible to join. There are teachers, bus drivers, administrators, custodians, cafeteria workers, secretaries, etc., who are members.

The primary objective of CCRTA is to be of service to Crawford County. For each meeting, there is a food bank or charity that is designated for members to contribute to, either in money or goods. We also provide scholarships for students who graduate from a Crawford County high school, who are to major in education in an Arkansas college or university. We have given out 21 scholarships in just the past four years that total $8,000.

The money that funds these scholarships comes from membership fees and donations to the scholarship fund. The cost of membership is $5 a year. We accept any donations toward the scholarships. All funds go toward the scholarships with the exception of expenses for supplies, postage and memorials.

When we sent out our annual newsletter to all of the retirees in August, we failed to include directions on how to send in memberships and donations. As a result our membership is down from previous years. Most folks would be very surprised to know there are close to 450 school retirees in Crawford County.

So, if you haven’t been able to attend the meetings, we miss you. If you can’t attend, we still need your financial support to carry on the scholarship program. Please make out a check for $5 to the CCRTA and mail it to Jim Galloway, 502 Fine Ranch Drive, Alma, AR 72921. We are a non-profit organization and your donation is tax deductible.
