Today, Aug. 30, 2018, the city utilities repaired a water leak at 9000-9001 Houston Street. This leak has been there for many years, 30 according to neighbors, 10 that I know of. The immediate neighbors have complained to the water department. I have complained at least four times. Every time the answer has come back that it's taken care of, but it wasn't. Nothing was done except maybe someone coming out and deciding that it's not a water department problem. This water has leaked across the street, through the street, algae has grown in the gutters, yet nothing was done for years.
Over the past weekend, I emailed my city director for this district, and magically, today the problem was fixed. Why couldn't calls from the neighbors for all these years accomplish the same thing? I have lived in Fort Smith for nearly 38 years. For nearly 38 years, I have had problems with the water department. The people who take the calls don't seem to get the message. When they do, the person who comes out to investigate doesn't see the problem. It's no wonder our water bills are high. The water department is the most inefficient part of our city.
