Wallace Edwin "Wally" Hays, 79, of Van Buren died Friday, June 24, 2016, in Fort Smith. He was born Aug. 31, 1936. He was a graduate of Van Buren High School, retired from Dixie Cup, worked at Hays Trading Post and Breeden Dodge, was a member of First Baptist Church and the widower of Patricia Hays.
He is survived by his wife, Kay; three daughters, Patti Thomas, Cindi Carter and Melissa Catron, all of Van Buren; a son, Dr. Wallace Hays of Van Buren; three sisters, Jeanne Mendenhall of Van Buren and Anne Spellman and Marilyn Ballentine, both of Alma; four brothers, Dr. J.B. Hays of Fayetteville, Darrell Hays of Fort Smith and Alvy Hays and Dr. Elliott Hays, both of Van Buren; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral was June 27 at First Baptist Church Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were grandchildren, Skylar Hays, Justin and Austin Thomas, Lyndsay Rucker, Tyler Carter and Isabella and Connor Catron.
