John Sylvester Sr., 72, of Van Buren died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, at a local hospital. He was born June 29, 1943, and a retired truck driver.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy; mother, Violet McTavish of LaGrange, Calif; three daughters, Melissa Stebens of Van Buren, Dawn Merlino of Las Vegas and Deanne Sylvester of Fortuna, Calif; four stepdaughters, Jeannette Morse of Rudy, Kayla McAlister and Alanna Kagen, both of Fort Smith, and Tammy Vizena of Louisiana; two stepsons, Jody Elmore of Van Buren and Jeremy Elmore of Centerton; two sisters, Patricia Montoya of Platteville, Colo., and Margie Salvatore of Aliquippa, Pa.; two brothers, Ken Asbury of Byron, Ga., and George Sylvester of LaGrange, Calif.; 25 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Liberty Cemetery in Altus.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Elmore, Josh Roam, Johnny Aldridge, Paul Lee, Kevin Tudor and Michael Miller.
