John Doyle Samples, 84, of Maricopa, Ariz., passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016, at a hospital. He was retired from Arkhola Sand and Gravel Co. in Fort Smith, U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and member of the Church of God Seventh-Day in Mesa, Ariz.. He was a resident of Crawford County for more than 79 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ezekiel and Viva (Osgood) Samples; three brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Samples of the home; one daughter, Marita Reese and her husband Don of Maricopa, Ariz.; one son, John Anson Samples of Chatfield, Texas; two sisters, Louise Woods of Van Buren and Betty Younger of Roland; and one grandchild Marilyn Reese of Maricopa, Ariz.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ocker Memorial Chapel with burial at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.

Pallbearers will be L.D. Hallmark, Johnny Hallmark, Terry Younger, Mitch Whitfield, Josh Woods, Jeremy Woods and Matthew Sanders.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Marion and Thurmon Williams
