Joe E. Smith, 84, of Van Buren passed away Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015. He was born July 5, 1930, in Van Buren to the late Harry and Minnie Mae McCracken Smith. He was a registered architect with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hermie Ione Bruns Smith, and his second wife, Billie Lehman Smith, who passed within hours of him.

He is survived by two daughters, Paula Levy of Fort Smith and Melissa Swagerty and husband Brendan of Chicago; three sons, Randy Smith and wife Stacey of Alma, Greg Smith and wife Amy of Sapulpa and Neil Smith and wife Robin of Tulsa; eight grandchildren, Cara Hewett and husband Scott, Robyn Johnson, Erica Johnson, Bradley Smith, Steven Smith, Tiffany Pullen, Jaime Cox and Emma Swagerty; and 11 great-grandchildren, Caitlin Goldtrap, Pierce Goldtrap, Andrew Goldtrap, Parker Hewett, Greyson Kremers, Phoebe Kremers, Hailey Rains, Kaley Pullen, Riley Pullen, Kyzleigh Cox and Kyson Handy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Pallbearers will be staff members of Edwards and Fentress Funeral Homes.

The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren.
