J.C. LaVern Hodges, 87, of Chester died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at his home. He was a former machine operator for Whirlpool, member of Chester Freewill Baptist Church and Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Caulksville and was the widow of Dorothy Hodges.

He is survived by a daughter, Rebekah Stephenson of Chester; a son, David Hodges of Fort Smith; a sister, Wanda Smith of Hot Springs; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Chester Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Vaught Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.

Pallbearers will be Gary McKee, Jobe, Newton and Charlie Adair, Kenny Reed and Anthony Seratt.
