James L. Hawkins, 97, of Mulberry passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, in Ozark. He was a resident of Mulberry for 51 years. He retired from Hickory Springs Manufacturing as a maintenance supervisor in Fort Smith and also United Carbon Co. in Kansas. James was a very active outdoorsman and loved to fish. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix or build. His specialty was making and selling cedar swings. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Ruby Battles Hawkins; five brothers and six sisters.

Graveside service will be held at noon Friday at New Cemetery in Mulberry, under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.

He is survived by one son, Jerry Hawkins and wife of Ironton, Mo.; two grandchildren, Stephany Dick of Jay, Okla., and David Hawkins of Mifflinburg, Pa,; eight great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will visit with friends from 10-11:30 a.m. Friday at Shaffer Funeral Home, 2315 W. Commercial in Ozark.
