Byrd "Bud" Parks, 92, of Alma died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at his home. He was a retired Navy chief petty officer, serving in World War II and Korean War. He received the Bronze Star, two Presidential Citations and China Service Medal. He was also retired from Ventura County (Calif.) Sheriff’s Department and first commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8855 in Mountainburg. He was born March 7, 1922 in Picacho, N.M.
Graveside service with military honors will be 1 p.m. Thursday at U. S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith. Cremation is under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; a daughter, Rhonda Robertson of the home; a son, Rick Munson of Alma; two sisters, Nina Tuffo of Eugene, Ore., and Mary Warren of El Paso, Texas; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
