Arlie Samuel Curd, 82, of Van Buren passed away peacefully on Friday, June 17, 2016, inFort Smith. He was born April 12, 1934, in Pocola to late Joe and Oma Curd. After a brief time working in the oil fields of Odessa, Texas, he served in the Army. He returned to Arkansas and retired after 34 years from Whirlpool. He spent his retirement in Van Buren. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and was a member of Butterfield Assembly of God. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death seven brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Willene Allison Curd; a daughter, Janice Lowman of Alma; a son, Brian Curd and wife Kelley of Van Buren; three sisters, Lou Hayes of Barling and Georgia Burns and Alvinia Mason, both of Pocola; three grandsons, Camden, Carson and Barrett; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life was June 21 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren. The Rev. Glendall Black and Pastor Patrick Kimberland officiated.

Pallbearers were Brian, Camden, Carson, Barrett, Allen and Fred Curd, Troy Branch, Damon Mason and Daryl and David Anderson.
