Melvin R. Robertson, 87, of Van Buren passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at a local hospital. He was a custodian at Venture’s Department Store in Fort Smith. He was a veteran United States Marine of the Korean War where he received the Purple Heart. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Clara Robertson, two brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Beverly Jodie Robertson of the home; one daughter, Lou Jones of Houston; one son, Joseph Robertson of Burleson, Texas; two sisters, Wilma Stafford and Lillie Richeson, both of Fort Smith; two grandchildren; adopted grandson, Derring Williams; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at noon Monday at U.S. National Cemetery Pavilion with military honors in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be John Baxter, Eugene Ree, Roger Cates and Bubba Cross.
Family will visit with relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Ocker Funeral Home, 700 Jefferson St., Van Buren.
