Jason Edward Lewis passed from this life Nov. 13, 2017, at his home. He was born March 25, 1976. He attended Van Buren Schools and earned his GED from Roland High School. One of his proudest accomplishments was being elected to Junior High School Student Council and getting a Gold Glove for best baseball catcher from Coach Blackwood at Van Buren Boys Club. He was a proud member of Heritage United Methodist Church. He was a former employee of Hardscrabble Country Club Golf Course.
He gave credit to the manager of the golf course, Brandon Black, for guiding him in the right direction. He worked many years as an appointment setter for Harris Remodelers. He always, in later years appreciated all of those who helped him along the way. A kind word, tough love from law enforcement, Judge Peer, juvenile authorities, youth minister at Heritage, it truly takes a village to raise a child. Jason was so proud of being clean for 17 years.
His mom has lost her best friend, I loved him so very much, and he was a wonderful person, lovely to everyone. A special thank you to Dr. Don Chambers, my niece Brenda Cate, Officer Brent Grill of the Van Buren Police Department, former Crawford County Sheriff Deputy Jerry Pittman.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Eugene Lewis; grandmother, Ila Jean Lewis; and grandparents, Mae and Dewey Bostick.
He is survived by his mother, Ellen June Lewis; cousins of the Zell Arnold family and cousins of the David Cate family, cousins of the Matthew Crabtree family, cousins of the Otho Bostick family of Texas and one aunt, Debra Lewis-Brown of Fort Smith.
Family held a private graveside service. There will be no viewing or visitation. Arrangements are under direction of Lewis-Roberts Funeral Chapel, Fort Smith. To place an online tribute, go to www.lewisfuneralchapel.net.
