Byron Don Spillman, 84, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, in Fort Smith. He was born in Ada, Okla., on Aug. 13, 1932, to N.H. He was a carpenter and millwright, retired from Whirlpoo and Navy veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a 32nd-degree Mason at Belle Pointe Lodge No. 20 in Fort Smith and member of Heritage United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed working for the Crew for Christ and the Food Pantry. He was a driver for the Department of Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service Transportation Network.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; a son, Tracy Spillman; a daughter, Lisa Zipperman; a sister, Laura Watson; a brother, Clifton Spillman; and five grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Heritage United Methodist Church with a reception to follow at the church. There will be a private burial with military honors Monday at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
