Larry Medlock, 80, of Alma passed away Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at a local hospice. He was born June 19, 1936, in Russellville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a Mason, elder at Central Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith. a graduate of the Commonwealth College of Sciences of Houston and Southern College of Optometry-Optometric Technician Program and worked with his wife Dr, Jean M. Medlock, as an optometric technician for 44 years. In 1990, he was also voted National Optometric Technician of the year. He loved to RV travel with the Ozark Ridge Runner friends and was a talented wood carver. He assisted coaching girls’ softball teams in Alma for about 10 years. He also worked for Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren and Fentress Mortuary in Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Barbara (Muller) Medlock.
Memorial service with military honors were graveside Aug. 23 at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Jean M. Medlock of the home. They were married 50 years ago June 5, 1966; a sister, Sandra Holcomb of Harrisburg, Va.; and a niece, Lydia Jalagonia of Fredricksburg, Va.
