Police arrested a Van Buren man after he allegedly beat a dog to death.
Cody McKay Malone, 20, was arrested on suspicion of felony cruelty to animals after he beat his girlfriend’s dog to death, according to a news release from Van Buren police detective Jonathan Wear.
About 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, police were called a residence in the 1500 block of North 24th Street in Van Buren where they found blood on the ground around Malone’s truck and the garage.
According to statements made to police, Malone had beaten the dog because the dog defecated and urinated on Malone and on the couch, Wear said. Malone then picked up the dog, a 20-pound terrier mix, and threw it against the wall, then picked it up and threw it into the brick steps in the garage, Wear said.
The dog was taken to a Van Buren animal clinic but was dead before it arrived there, the release states. Malone cut himself in the process and had to be treated by EMS, Wear said.
Malone was booked into the Crawford County Detention Center.
