A town hall meeting to inform Crawford County residents about the Health Insurance Marketplace will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Van Buren Public Library, 1409 Main St.

The event is hosted jointly by the University of Arkansas Partners for Inclusive Communities, Arkansas Health Department, Hometown Health Initiative and the Arkansas Health Connector, a division of the Arkansas Insurance Department.

Those attending can learn about health insurance coverage options, receive one-on-one assistance and find out how to enroll.

"The Affordable Care Act makes health insurance an attainable goal for every Arkansan, and we are excited to tell them about that," said David Deere, executive director of Partners for Inclusive Communities. "We wanted to hold these town hall meetings to help address some of the misconceptions and clear up some of the misinformation that’s out there. Arkansans without insurance can breathe easier because this law is taking effect. We want everyone to get informed and ‘Get In’."

Beginning Oct. 1., Arkansans can shop for and purchase health insurance plans through the Marketplace. All plans will cover the 10 Essential Health Benefits, ranging from inpatient and outpatient services to prescription drugs and maternity care. Some Arkansans may qualify for financial assistance, based on income, to help them purchase health insurance through the Marketplace.

The town hall meetings are a component of the "Get In" public information and outreach effort to educate Arkansans about the new Health Insurance Marketplace.
