Tickets are still available for Saturday’s steak dinner during the championship steak cookoff in historic downtown Van Buren.

The event will be sanctioned by Steak Cookoff Association of Bedford, Texas, and sponsored locally by Butterfield Assembly of God Church.

Steak dinner tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of event. Only 500 steak tickets are available and 100 VIP tickets for $30. Steak dinner tickets and VIP tickets can be purchased at Bedford Camera in Fort Smith, Citizens Bank & Trust Co. branches in Van Buren, Butterfield Church office, EKG Firearms, Firefly Boutique, Advanced Meat Processing, Van Buren Chamber of Commerce City Visitors Center at the Train Station or by calling (501) 247-8894.

The steak dinner will be from 5 to 7 p.m.

Admission to the cookoff is free.

The winner will receive an invitation to the 2015 SCA World Steak Championship in Fort Worth, Texas, Oct. 24, as well as a trophy and $1,000 cash. Grilling teams will compete for more than $2,600 in cash and prizes.

On Saturday, Sept. 5, Denim and Pearl will perform at 11 a.m., Nick Swaim and Triple Threat at 1:30 p.m. and Eric Matthew Band at 6 p.m.

The event also will include arts and crafts vendors, carnival food vendors, kid’s interactive area and a kid’s pork chop cookoff.

Lonnie London, president of TOTMA, said the downtown merchants hope to make the cookoff an annual event in an effort to promote more traffic downtown and expose more visitors to the area.

Proceeds will benefit the CGM Kids Humanitarian Aid Charity and BGMC.
