Summit Medical Center soon will have a new name.
It was announced Tuesday Summit’s name will be changed to Sparks Medical Center - Van Buren.
Anthony Brooks, interim administrator and chief financial officer, said the official name change should take place early in the second quarter of 2015 with new signage going up on the facility.
"This name change is more than just new signs," Brooks said. "It’s a strategic decision to spotlight Summit as an integral part of Sparks Health System."
He said some of the goals of this strategy include improving physician recruitment, improving patient confidence and utilizing Summit’s geographic location for patient convenience.
"Many improvements are also being proposed for Sparks Medical Center – Van Buren, including a relocated, rebuilt and expanded emergency room and more outpatient services," Brooks said.
Summit Medical Center is a 103-bed acute care hospital and is accredited by the Joint Commission. The hospital has received quality improvement and innovator awards from the Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care.
