Alma public schools will open Monday, Aug. 19, to start the 2013-14 school year, according to David Woolly, superintendent.

Aug. 19, students in grades 1-2 are to report to the primary school at 8:30 a.m. for assignment to class. Kindergarten students will report for the first time on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Students in grades 3-5 are to report to the intermediate school at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 19 for assignment to class. Students in grades 6-8 are to report to the middle school at 8:30 a.m. for assignment to class. Arkansas state law requires all seventh grade students to have their Tdap immunization and to provide documentation for the school.

Students in grades 9-12 are to report to the high school Performing Arts Center at 8:30 a.m. for the first day. Monday, Aug. 19, will be a full day of school from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Buses will make the same stops as last year and will be running on the same time schedule.

Students not enrolled in the Alma District last year are asked to enroll at their respective schools. Contact the primary school immediately if a kindergarten child has not pre-registered to enter school this fall. The phone number for the primary school is (479) 632-5100.

Arkansas state law requires that all children entering school must have the following immunizations: DPT/DTaP, Polio, Measles, Rubella, Mumps, Hepatitis B and Varicella (chickenpox). State regulations also require that children entering school for the first time must have written proof of a physical evaluation (within the past two years) completed by a physician or the health department.

An official document from a physician’s office or the health department listing the dates of immunizations will be required. Students that do not have an up-to-date health record may start their enrollment process but will not be permitted to attend until all requirements are met.
