Four gold sponsors and several silver sponsors will help make possible the Run With the Knights at King Elementary School in Van Buren.
The ninth annual 5k run/walk enables King fourth graders to go to fourth grade C.A.M.P. (Children Achieving Maximum Potential). The camp is used to teach outside of the classroom and to provide the students with unique outdoor experiences.
Silver sponsors are US Bank, MAHG Architects, Swaim Office Products, Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, First Bank, HSA Engineering, Myers-Beaty Engineering, Summit Medical Center, Citizens Bank & Trust, Wilcox Transmission, Arvest Bank and United Federal Credit Union.
Entry fee is now $25 for the USA Track and Field certified race. Students 18 and under are charged $10. Children 8 and under can participate in the Fun Run free of charge. The entry fee includes a T-shirt for the first 300 entries.
Age divisions, male and female, are 8 and under, 9-11, 12-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70-plus.
The event begins at 8:30 a.m. at King School, 411 N. 20th St. Van Buren police officers will block streets as runners and walkers make their way through historic downtown along Main Street and past the Crawford County Courthouse before returning to the school.
The camp is provided at no cost to all King fourth graders. Run With the Knights has allowed more than 400 King students to experience the educational outdoor camp.
About $5,000 is needed to provide food, all activities and camp rental for the students, their teachers and camp chaperones.
