Feb. 21 is the deadline to pre-register for the ninth annual Run With the Knights 5k run/walk at King Elementary School in Van Buren.

Entry fee is $15 by Feb. 21 for the Saturday, March15, event which is a USA Track and Field certified race. The fee goes to $25 after Feb. 21 and on race day, with students 18 and under charged $10. Children 8 and under can participate in the Fun Run free of charge. The entry fee includes a T-shirt for the first 300 entries.

Age divisions, male and female, are 8 and under, 9-11, 12-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70-plus.

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. at King School, 411 N. 20th St. Van Buren police officers will block streets as runners and walkers make their way through historic downtown along Main Street and past the Crawford County Courthouse before returning to the school.

Proceeds from Run with the Knights go to fund fourth grade C.A.M.P. (Children Achieving Maximum Potential). The camp is used to teach outside of the classroom and to provide the students with unique outdoor experiences.

The camp is provided at no cost to all King fourth graders. Run With the Knights has allowed more than 400 King students to experience the educational outdoor camp.

About $5,000 is needed to provide food, all activities and camp rental for the students, their teachers and camp chaperones.
