The Boys and Girls Club of Van Buren’s fourth annual "Life’s an Uphill Run" 5K is less than two weeks away and time is running out to sign on as a sponsor for the event.

Presented by Bekaert Corp., the popular 5K race will take place April 30. It will begin and end at the Boys and Girls Club of Van Buren, located within the Dr. Louis Peer Memorial City Park.

The chip-timed 5K will track through the various elevations of the park and surrounding area. The one-mile fun run/walk takes participants along the perimeter of Lake Cap Bedell, located next to the club.

"This event is a local favorite among runners, but also gives walkers an opportunity to support our organization and local youth," said Cindy Faldon, BGCVB executive director.

Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers in each age division of the 5k event. All participants will receive a dri-fit event T-shirt. The event is open to runners and walkers of all ages. Check-in and registration will begin that day at 7 a.m., with the race to follow at 8 a.m.

A limited number of sponsorship opportunities are still available, which vary in price and marketing benefits. Sponsorships begin at $100 and include placement on the "Life’s an Uphill Run" T-shirt. The deadline to sponsor is this Thursday.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Van Buren, which serves more than 1,300 members through its after school, summer and sports programs. The club also provides nutritious meals each weekday to participants.

Registration is open online at the Boys and Girls Club of Van Buren’s new website, www.VBClub.org. Advanced registration is $20. Race-day registration will be $25. Individuals may also complete a paper registration form and return to the club. Participants must be registered by Friday to guarantee their shirt size.

"This event is one of only two major special event fundraisers that we do each year and its success is dependent upon great support from our community," Faldon said. "We truly appreciate each of our sponsors, including our presenting sponsor, Bekaert Corporation, and all of the runners and walkers who take part in this race."
