Optimist International is holding three concurrent contests for college scholarships worth $2,500 each.
Contests are an essay contest, oratorical contest, and communication contest for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Children under the age of 19 that do not have a high school diploma or equivalent are eligible. Entries for all three contests are due Feb. 21.
Each contest has a specific topic and requirements. Participants for the essay contest must compose a 700 to 800 word essay around the topic "How Dreams Lead to Success."
An additional Winner Club entry is due to essay contest participants district Feb. 28.
For the oratorical and communication contest, participants must prepare a speech or communication between 4 and 5 minutes long on the topic "How My Passions Impact the World."
Communication contest participants must be certified to have uncorrected hearing loss of 40 decibels or more, supported by an audiogram.
For the second and third contest, the club contest date is Feb. 28, the zone contest date is March 15 and the district contest date is April 12.
One $2,500 district scholarship is available for the essay and communication contest; two scholarships will be awarded for the oratorical contest.
