A search for a new executive director for the Alma Area Chamber of Commerce is underway.
Chamber board members have "put out feelers" for a new executive director to replace former director Lisa Norris.
Interim director Brianna Glass has been filling in the position since Norris left the chamber at the end of last year. Glass will work her last day with the chamber on June 30, said Brian Huff, chamber board vice president.
"It was decided at the time (that Norris resigned) to put in an interim until we decided what to do, and now we’ve decided to go ahead and hire someone to fill the position," Huff said.
Hours for the part-time executive director position are Tuesday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., with weekend and night availability. The yearly salary is about $17,500, Huff said.
Ed Thicksten, chamber board secretary-treasurer, said the board prefers to hire someone with prior experience working with a chamber or other non-profit civic organization, experience working in the business world, and is willing to live in the area.
"We hope we can get someone to come in and keep up the spirit we have had," Thicksten said. "Someone who wants to make Alma a better place to live."
According to the job description, the Alma Area chamber executive director "serves as chief executive and administrative officer of the chamber and oversees all the functions of the office and the organization. While the majority of the functions of the chamber are carried out by the volunteer base, the executive director serves as coordinator, advisor and member advocate."
Responsibilities include accurate recording and billing of chamber members, communicating with members, potential members, business owners and their employees, residents, city personnel, media, civic and church organizations.
The executive director also is responsible for upholding chamber bylaws established by the board.
Applicants must send a cover letter, resume and three references in PDF form to email@example.com. For full consideration, applications must be submitted before June 17, 2016.
